There has been quite a lot of coverage on Coolify by Torras, even the folks at Unboxing Therapy had a go (the video hits over 1 million views already). So for my write-up, I will be adding to the dozens of reviews available online. In case you are wary about whether all the influencers reviews are genuine, you have come to the right place. Thanks to weareready.sg for sending over this review unit. In Singapore, they are the authorised distributor selling at a launch price of S$179 (U.P. $199) with warranty.
To use this, just hang it around your neck, and tap the power button once to start the fan based on blade-less technology with anti-hair entanglement. At Speed 1, Coolify can last for 8 hours. This latest necklace fan is actually an upgrade from earlier models made by Torras, with adjustable arms and now includes an “air-con” cooling plate using Ku Peltier Radiator.
The thermoelectric cooling plate is located at the back so that when worn, it will come in contact with your neck and deliver a chilling effect. This is similar to the Embr Wave wrist bracelet I reviewed last year. The cooling plate is activated separately from the fan by long-press the power button, so you can decide when you need that extra boost. Turning it on brings down the overall battery life to 4 hours. It will be turned off automatically after 30 minutes to prevent over-use.
When used indoors, Coolify can be a bit noisy, since the fan motors are quite close to the ears compared to a table fan. However, the wind is real, driving 70% towards my face and 30% downwards to my shoulders. Compared to a household fan, Coolify is targeted at specifically at my head and while the cooling plate offers a feeling of cool, it does not feel as natural as real wind blowing against my body and legs. I feel that for indoors, even Speed 1 is a tad too strong, since the device is so close to my face, I sometimes just want a soft breeze to circulate the air around me.
When used outdoors, Coolify indeed offers that cooling relief and no doubt it makes head turn but the most important advantage is the personal cooling effect it achieves which is much better than a hand-held fan which you probably need to hold it really close to your skin in order to feel the wind draft.
Verdict
After my hands-on review, I conclude that Coolify is a very effective personal fan that you can wear around your neck hands-free to deliver the wind and coolness that you would badly need under any humid and hot environment. Never mind the looks, others will be eyeing with envy that you got yourself a cool (pun-intended) gadget to keep yourself comfortable under the sun, and for ladies to prevent sweat from ruining make-up.
