Last week, CASIO invited me to their office where they showcased dozens of new wrist watches. I am overwhelmed by the variety and styles of watches and here are some of the models with Bluetooth connectivity for your consideration.
This is currently the flagship model with an expected retail price of about S$6000 in Singapore. The MRG-B5000 is the first MR-G timepiece to feature the iconic design of the very first G-SHOCK. Influenced by the design of the DW-5000C, the first-ever G-SHOCK released in 1983, the MRG-B5000 brings a brilliant shine to the shock-resistant watch by employing cutting-edge metals finished with master polishing craftsmanship. The newly developed Multi-guard Structure protects the module with totally superior shock-absorption. The multi-component bezel incorporates four-cornered suspension componentry combining T-shaped bars and flat springs as well as silicone buffering. The top bezel is made of COBARION, a cobalt-chrome alloy boasting a hardness about four times that of pure titanium and a brilliant gleam comparable to platinum. The band employs DAT55G, a titanium alloy with a hardness about three times that of pure titanium. With these super-hard alloys developed in Japan, Casio achieved an exterior design that ensures both strength and beauty. A special Ti64 titanium alloy is used for the case, back cover and buttons.
The MRG-B5000 comes with a radio-controlled calibration and smartphone link connectivity. The watch connects with the dedicated CASIO WATCHES smartphone app to automatically adjust to the correct time. It also comes equipped with a solar charging system and a high-brightness LED light for added convenience.
Long story short, this is a homage to the “OG” – the original G-SHOCK, with all premium high quality materials that any CASIO collector will want to get. The MRG-B5000BA-1 will be launched in Singapore in Jun, actual date to be advised.
The new MT-G series feature an innovative slim module and shock-resistant construction. They are even more streamlined models than the previous MT-G line with a case that is more than 2mm slimmer than MTG-B1000. CASIO delivered an even more advanced Dual Core Guard structure to protect the module with a carbon-reinforced resin case and encloses the exterior with metal components, retaining the metal look and texture while reducing the weight, and further protecting the module with a case back featuring raised sides.
Tech-wise, the MTG-B3000 features radio-controlled calibration and Smartphone Link connectivity via Bluetooth. The watch connects with the dedicated CASIO Watches smartphone app to automatically adjust to the correct time. It also comes equipped with a solar charging system and a high-brightness LED light.
It comes with three model variants: MTG-B3000BD-1ADR in red with layered composite band (S$1699), MTG-B3000BD-1A2DR in green with layered composite band (S$1699), and MTG-B3000B-1ADR in gray with soft urethane band (S$1599). Available in Singapore from late May.
The GMW-B5000 is a square full metal design in titanium that makes the watch very lightweight. The bezel and the band have laser etching of the specification of this watch. The laser-bored holes reveal the red coloured fine resin component. This watch can be linked to your phone and gives you automatic time adjustment, world time setting, and many more functions that are easy to use through the G-SHOCK connected app. The watch is powered by the original CASIO Tough Solar power system, Multiband 6 radio wave reception, and full-auto LED backlight.
The G-SHOCK GMW-B5000TVB will be available from end-June, price to be advised.
G-SHOCK G-STEEL GST-B500
This is the slim and light G-STEEL series made possible by a thin module and a carbon core guard structure by downsizing components and using high-density mounting technology, which reduce the thickness without sacrificing hardware components like Bluetooth function, solar power capabilities.
Across the various models, the bezels’ surfaces have different finishes, which creates an elegant effect and changes the appearance of the texture of the metal depending on the viewing angle. In terms of the colourways, there are three silver colours, one black colour, and one gold colour. The silver models have three different colour dials: all black, black with a red accent, and green.
Regarding the functions, timekeeping features include automatic time adjustment when paired with a smartphone installed with the dedicated app “CASIO Watches”. Another feature is a reminder setting that helps users keep track of upcoming events set in the app, as well as a high-brightness double LED light that maintains watch readability in the dark. The G-STEEL series are now available for sale and retails from S$459.
