Here’s a musical event to share for those who likes Chinese orchestral music. Ding Yi Music Company is founded in 2007 and is the first Chinese chamber music ensemble in Singapore. Other than traditional Chinese music, they also perform contemporary and even cross-genre works. Under the baton of assistant conductor Mr. Dedric Wong, the 20-musician strong ensemble performance for the event includes Zhou Xiao Man, The Apex Project. Songs on performance include classical Chinese folk songs such as Beating the Long Drum (长鼓敲起来), A Good Day (好日子) and Heavenly Road (天路).
The Happy Chinese New Year Concert was initially staged for China’s President Xi Jinping at the state banquet hosted by President Tony Tan in 2015, Ding Yi has extended this year’s concert to the Singaporean public for them to enjoy a similar presidential experience. The inspiration for this year’s concert was drawn from the energy of the largest human migration in the world, when the Chinese head home in droves for their annual gathering. Extended families would attend cultural festivities together, making the most of each other’s presence with the musical talents of the troops serving as a backdrop in the warmth of familial bonds.
