Samsung has announced the latest Galaxy S7 4G+ and S7 edge 4G+. Here’s 8 things that you should know about the new flagship smartphones.
2 models, 2 sizes
There is only the Galaxy S7 in 5.1 inch and the Galaxy S7 edge in 5.5 inch with dual curved edges. No plus sizes for now, which I thought is a sensible move. Also, only 32GB models are launched.
Better Camera
Samsung once again improved on the camera hardware by increasing the amount of light entering the sensor to f/1.7. The pixels have reduced to 12MP (from 16MP) but it means each pixel is larger in order to further improve low light noise.
Water and Dust Proof
Both models are rated IP68, which theoretically means they are water resistant.
External memory slot
Both models support microSD card slots up to 200GB, and as mentioned above, only 32GB internal memory models are available. Another right move so that consumers can manage their storage capacity and reduce inventory models.
Always On Display
The 2560 x 1440 AMOLED display can show minimal information all the time while consuming less than 1% battery per hour. Might not be that useful if you always carry your phone in your pocket, but would be great for desk bound people as it will double up as a desk clock.
Performance
Obviously there are improved hardware specs on the CPU and GPU. Samsung has claimed that the new S7 can handle powerful games and manage heat. But how does it translate to real world usage? We’ll know after hands on review.
Battery
Battery capacity has increased. The larger S7 edge holds 3600mAh. However, it is not removable.
More Accessories
Samsung is pushing for augmented reality and has brought in Facebook chief as a show of collaboration. Other than the VR headset, Samsung introduces a new Gear 360 camera for content creation.
There are also accessories like flip covers, keyboard cover, battery pack cases, gaming control pads, and camera lens attachment.
Pre-Order from 26 Feb, Launching on 12 Mar
Samsung Galaxy S7 4G+ and S7 edge 4G+ will be available in Singapore from 12 March 2016. Pre-orders will commence from 26 Feb at 10am at all telcos and Samsung Experience stores, and will receive a free Samsung Gear VR worth S$148. Galaxy S7 4G+retails for S$998, Galaxy S7 edge 4G+at S$1098. Both devices will be available in Black Onyx, Gold Platinum and Silver Titanium.
To celebrate the launch of the Galaxy S7 4G+ and S7 edge 4G+ in Singapore, Samsung will be holding a consumer carnival, S7 Delights, at VivoCity Central Court A and B, from 7pm to 10pm on 2 March 2016, and 10am to 10pm from 3 – 6 March 2016. S7 Delights will comprise 4 themed experiential zones, along with a comprehensive product showcase area. These zones will let consumers enjoy a slew of interactive and immersive activities that incorporate the features of Galaxy S7 4G+ and S7 edge 4G+.
