With the true wireless earbuds demand surging over the months, Master & Dynamic wasted no time and rolled out improvements over the previous MW07 true wireless earbuds with two variants. The MW07 GO is an “active” variant in fabric casing while the MW07 PLUS adds active noise cancelling to the MW07 plus other new refinements. In this article, I will review the MW07 GO, which retails at S$329.
The MW07 GO comes in a fabric case which is lighter and easier to maintain. It caters to the target consumers who prefers the earbuds to be a little more rugged for use in rough times. The MW07 GO is IPX6 rated and are lighter in weight as it is made of ultra-strong lightweight composite called TR90. The earbuds have a battery life of 10 hours listening time (compared to 3.5 hours on the original TW07) while the case allows additional 12 hours usage time. The outer shell is in basic solid colours unlike the premium models.
Like the original MW07, the right earbud has a single button to control playback and track changes, while the left earbud controls volume. The buttons are easy to operate compared to the other earbuds where user has to press into the ears. There are no voice prompts, only beeps to indicate operations. The unique Fit Wings provide excellent support to keep the earbuds secure in your ears. There are 3 sizes for you to choose from. Similarly, there are 5 ear tip sizes to cater to various ear shapes. For once, I find the default ear tips too large for me, and I feel more comfortable wearing the “SM” size. The charging cable has USB-C on both ends, with a separate USB-A adapter provided. This is an uncommon combination that is growing in popularity because most of the latest laptops are dropping the USB Type-A port.
For the sound quality, the MW07 GO retains the Master & Dynamic audio signature of strong treble presence and supportive bass. Driven by 10mm Beryllium drivers and supports aptX and SBC codecs, the sound staging is close and wide but with distinct instrumental positioning to separate them instead of sounding mashed up. I find that the mid-treble is slightly less harsh compared to the MW07, and the sub-bass is less intense. With less crowded sound and spillover, instruments are easier for my ears to pick up.
I find myself enjoying the MW07 GO more than the MW07. The MW07 GO delivers a relatively powerful audio force to my ears which would usually make me feel uncomfortable or fatigue, yet I could handle it relatively well. They sound less playful or coloured than other earbuds like Sennheiser or RHA, but brighter and less netural than Klipsch T5 TRUE Wireless or AirPods Pro.
Comparatively, the MW07 PLUS delivers a slightly finer, more sizzling treble presence and a bass that fills a larger space. It is tempting to say the MW07 PLUS sounds better but it is a matter of preference. I would say if you like your treble to be more transparent with a little more hype, then MW07 PLUS would give you that gratification. I tend to like MW07 GO for a more balanced sound.
Verdict
The new MW07 GO is designed for active users with lightweight fabric case, 10 hour battery life, and more comfortably impactful sound, at lower price. I appreciate that it has cut back on the premium materials to offer a more palatable price point yet does not sacrificing on the quality. In fact, it could win a larger market share with a design suited for everyday lifestyle.
