Everyone should be carrying a power bank with him or her, but the challenge is to find a really small and compact one so that you are happy to keep one in handy. EnerGea reached out to me for a collaboration post, and after browsing through their shop, I picked the ComPac AluMini portable power bank (S$79).
They also have other powerbanks, like the ComPac Wireless PD (S$69), ComPac Mini (S$59), and ComPac Ultra (S$89). But the AluMini caught my eye, so I’m going to share why I chose this power bank over others.
As Small As A Deck of Cards
My previous powerbanks are relatively big, not that I mind, but it is a major deterrent for ladies – like my wife. The AluMini is exactly the size of a deck of 52 cards, and the curved edges keeps it safe among objects in your bag.
Fast Charging Supported
The AluMini supports Qualcomm QC2.0, QC3.0, Samsung Adaptive Fast Charging, Huawei Fast Charging, MediaTeck PumpExpress+, Power Delivery (PD).
There is a micro-USB port for input charging, the USB Type-A for output charging, and the USB-C for both input and output. The maximum output is 18W, so it is slightly less fast than using original charger from the various brands, some of which can charge 20W and beyond.
But during my test with Huawei P30 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S10, Google Pixel 4XL, each phone recognised and delivered “fast charge” mode.
For Pixel 4XL, when I charged with the USB-C port, it detected and delivered “rapid charge” mode.
4 mini LED at the side tells you the remaining battery life. If it detects fast charging mode, the last LED will turn green.
Realistically, the AluMini requires almost 1 hour to charge from 35% to full on the Galaxy S10. Some devices control the charging circuits and vary the charging speed. Charging may also be slower if you are using the device at the same time. The key takeaway, however, is the all the above devices is able to receive charges from the AluMini at the respective “fast charge” specifications, hence AluMini will work with the devices to charge the battery accordingly.
Charging the AluMini powerbank is also amazingly speedy. I managed to give it a full charge within 4 hours using QuickCharge or PD compatible charger.

FibraTough Cable
If you are also looking for a durable charging cable, you might want to consider the EnerGea FibraTough. Retailing from S$19.90 (USB Type A to USB-C), they can carry up to 5A or 100W power and the cables can withstand 50kg load and 30,000 bend actions. Each cable comes with 5-year warranty and a warranty card is included in each package for you to register online for peace of mind. Also available are USB-C to iOS Lightning, and USB-C to USB-C (prices vary).
If you are concerned about cable quality, then FibraTough seems like an assuring purchase. The price is reasonable and you could use it to charge with the original fast chargers that require high amp current.
Conclusion
If you are not concerned about the size of the powerbank, you might get better value off the other ComPac models. The ComPac Wireless PD (S$69) supports wireless charging, the ComPac Mini (S$59) comes with 2x USB Type-A ports to charge 2 devices at the same time, and the ComPac Ultra (S$89) is a 20000 mAh power bank that is double the capacity of ComPac Mini but just 50% higher price. I chose the ComPac AluMini purely due to its amazingly compact size. To me, the power bank is a backup rather than a lifeline, so I put size as a priority over the capacity.
