I was chatting with my wife and we ended up mentioning something and I wanted to make a sad disappointed sound effect, so suddenly I recalled this “loss life” sound clip from an old game “Western Bar”, and sang it out. She was like, that sounded familiar, where did I hear that from?
After teasing her for a while, she finally recalled it was from the old handheld game. Out of curiosity, I searched on Google Play Store and there it was!
I was impressed that the creator retained all the nostalgia, the design is so detailed and high-res, no visible pixelation or colour noise, as if it was from the original source.
After I shared on Instagram and Facebook, I got so many responses from friends of my age. It is indeed an iconic game for us in the 1980s. It was considered a premium game compared to the Nintendo “Game and Watch” single-screen series, that anyone who brought that to school was instantly elevated to “BFF” status.
Check out my sample game play below. I purposely “killed” the character so that you can hear the sound effects.
