I was approached by Mixcder to review their audio products. I looked at their online catalog and selected the Flyto to review, for the following reasons.
Sports-friendly
Many of my readers are into fitness. Unlike buying a premium headphones, they tend not to spend too much for earphones used for sports, because, honestly, who would want to wear their favourite pricey headphones for a run and end up sweaty, soiled, and smelly?
The Mixcder Flyto is sweatproof and comes with ear tips that secure the earbuds in your ears. The earbuds seem to be rather big, and I feel the earbud is too long from the ear tips, forcing me to push the earbuds deeper into my ear canals in order to lock the ear tips on the ear cartilage. If you have small ears, the Flyto will certainly cause discomfort.
Wireless
The launch of Apple iPhone 7 has brought wireless earphones into the limelight. Moreover, it makes better sense to workout without cables getting in the way. The Mixcder Flyto has a battery life of 9 hours, and requires 1.5 hours to charge. In reality, the battery is between 6-8 hours of active music streaming. It will easily last one work day if you do not listen to music continuously.
Audio Quality
Most online reviews suggest the Mixcder Flyto offers powerful bass. My review unit is the complete opposite. The Flyto is one of the least bassy earphones I have reviewed for a long time. You can hear the bass notes, but they lack the boom that fills the lower registers of our aural experience. Even after swapping to my own silicone earbud does not improve the bass feel. When I boost the lower frequency using EQ software, the bass is slightly improved but there is no way to recover the boom effect.
The surprisingly thing is that despite the absence of the lows, the overall sound is oddly pleasant. The most challenging area for wireless audio is the treble range, yet the Mixcder Flyto sounds impressive, almost like wired, without audible compression artifacts. And after listening for a while, I got used to the lack of big bass. The treble clarity is the saving grace of the Flyto, allowing me to enjoy the highs without being distracted with the lows, especially for instrumental and vocal genres where bass is not the primary . But don’t push the volume too hard, for tracks with strong sibilance will rear its ugly head on the Flyto earbuds.
Verdict
The Mixcder Flyto delivers clear quality audio without much bass volume, catering to consumers who absolutely love clarity, detail, musicality, and at the same time dislike the presence of boomy bass. Visit the for more details and links to purchase at Amazon at US$16.99.
