Are you ready to go online shopping after reading my ShopBack post?
What I am about to share with you is the smallest and most fuss-free product to convert your existing USB flash drive to work with your Android smartphone as an external memory storage drive.
Why should you buy one?
1. It’s Cheap. Too Cheap.
I paid US$1.59, including shipping, to Singapore. That’s less than your breakfast toast set with kopi. If you look harder, you might even find some sellers going for less than US$1. There are other OTG adapters that costs a lot lesser, but I like this design.
2. It Saves Your Smartphone Data.
It has become common for smartphones not to have expandable internal storage. So, you should backup your smartphone data regularly.
3. It Saves You Money.
To do #2, you don’t need to buy special flash drives with microUSB port or unsightly cable adapters. Don’t you have a couple of those corporate gifts of USB flash drives? I have so many, I don’t know what to do with them.
4. It Will Come In Handy.
I have a small bag full of adapters and cables, just in case I need to convert microSD to SD, nanoSIM to microSIM, microUSB to USB, Apple Lightning to microUSB, and so on. This new addition will add to my arsenal and save some space. I like it small since I just needed one as a standby.
Do make sure your device supports USB OTG (on-the-go), or else nothing will happen when you plug your device in. In general, most devices will support, but I cannot guarantee ALL. Check your product specs to make sure. Enter “OTG” together with your product name to get search results.
Why should you not buy it?
1. It’s useless.
You don’t own any USB flash drive or Android smartphone.
2. It is too small to be easily misplaced.
Quite true, that’s why you should buy a few at one go. Or you can just look for other OTG adapter products that come in various shapes and sizes.
3. I prefer to spend on breakfast.
What more can I say? We do love food.
Where and How To Buy
It’s cheapest to buy this OTG adaptor online via AliExpress, and even cheaper if you buy via ShopBack due to cashback benefits (read my review here). Consumers who do not trust online shops can head to Sim Lim Square or Funan IT Mall to find one, but it will probably cost you your lunch.
